Ali Cramer Teaching a Class

1 Introduction to Ayurveda

An immersion into the fundamental principles of Ayurveda, the science of life. This class will focus on the 5-element theory, 3-doshas (vata, pitta and kapha) and sub-doshas including their locations and expressions throughout the body. You will discover your unique physical/mental/emotional constitution. We will also take a closer look at how Ayurvedic wisdom views the Mind (Manas) in relation to the body, senses and soul.

2 Ayurvedic Nutrition & Digestion

The quality of your digestive process largely determines your state of health. In this class we will explore the importance of experiencing all 6 tastes in our diet, keeping our ‘agni’ (digestive fire) strong and attuning our senses toward the subtler energetics of food, herbs and remedies. You will learn about specific foods and how they directly affect your unique constitution. Many examples of meal ideas will be shared.

3 Ayurvedic Cooking for Self-Healing

As we apply the more advanced concepts from the Part 2 class, the passage, “Food is medicine, medicine is food” will bring great clarity into the realm of choosing and preparing foods. You will also learn ways of simply preparing a meal for family or friends of different constitutions. Together, we will create a traditional Ayurvedic meal, herbal tea, ghee and a medley of spices to delight your senses. Bring your appetite!

4 Dinacharya, The Art of Daily Ayurvedic Healing Rituals

Learn how the natural daily cycles of the organs and doshas in relationship to seasons and time influences our lives. Through honoring these biological rhythms and applying Ayurvedic healing modalities, we can create a daily routine that is aligned with the beauty of Nature. In this way we experience more joy, abundant energy, strong digestion and peace in each moment. Life is a celebration!

5 Ayurvedic Assessment Skills

Have you always wondered how to identify or ‘read’ specific qualities, doshas, balance or imbalance in yourself and others? We will cover the classical Ayurvedic 8-fold assessment, including tongue, nail, facial and pulse diagnosis. It is by cultivating the art of awareness that profound healing and growth can occur. The skills taught in this class will be especially beneficial for healing arts practitioners and yoga teachers.
